EP REVIEW ~ Rhode Island Red – Kerosene

Article by Simona Milani
Rhode Island Red are a London-based hard rock band formed in late 2009. They recently released their debut EP Kerosene after gigging around the capital. They’ve been influenced by bands such as Nickelback, The Cult, Garbage, and Foo Fighters. Dave, the guitarist, has described their sound as “pop music in a hard rock jacket”.
The band is formed by:
Lyla D’Souza – Vocals
Dave Garfield – Guitar
Andrea Basiola – Guitar
Mike McGuinness – Bass
John Keech – Drums
At first listen, the thing that immediately catches my attention is the singer’s vocal power, making her sound like Sandra Nasic from Guano Apes, even more hoarse and sensual. You will find yourself immediately shaking the head in time with the music. Isn’t it what defines a good track? Seems like they made it. “Beige” is definitely the piece that struck me the most, either because of the riffs and powerful scratchy vocal performance, either because this is the kind of music I prefer the most.
Thumbs up for this group, which I think has great potential.
Rating: 8/10
The band’s debut EP features three songs “Kerosene”, “Beige” and “Stalemate” and it’s available on iTunes and Amazon.
